On July 2, the prominent representative of the medical science, talented educator and well-known surgeon, Honored Scientist, Head of the Urology Department of the Azerbaijan Medical University, correspondent member of ANAS Sudeif Imamverdiyev is 80.

Sudeif Bashir oglu Imamverdiyev was born in Astara in 1938 in a well-educated family. S.Imamverdiyev, a graduate of the Medical-Preventive Medicine Faculty of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute, worked for a while at the Urology Department of the Republican Hospital in Baku.

In 1968 he successfully defended his PhD in medicine on uro-oncology in Baku, and in 1974 he defended his doctoral thesis on medical sciences. Since October 1976, S. Imamverdiyev worked as an associate professor at the Department of Urology of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute, and since 1977 - Professor. From 1990 to present he is the head of the same department.

For the first time in 1964 the scientist carried out lymphographic examination in our country and offered 2 mechanical devices for this purpose. Since 1968, he has begun to apply aortography extensively in Azerbaijan, and as a result, since 1970, he has undergone reconstructive surgery in renal arteries, including renal and vascular hypertension.

Since 1977, SI Imamverdiyev has achieved great success in the surgical treatment of patients with cranial and kidney stones. The methods and approaches proposed by the well-known physician are successfully applied in the clinic in modern times.

Since 1984, prominent urologist has been successful in reducing kidney tumors and has been the first to implement radical prostatectomy in our country in 1997. S. Imamverdiyev has great services in the development of uro-gynecology in our country. He achieved 100% success in surgical treatment of uro-genital fistula.

The outstanding scientist has 13 inventions and rationalization proposals, including 385 scientific works in Azerbaijan, Russian, English, French, Georgian and Arabic, including 4 textbooks, 10 monographs, 5 methodical and 6 textbooks. Under his leadership, 20 candidates and 5 doctoral dissertations were defended. He has participated in scientific conferences and symposiums in more than 50 countries around the world, as well as in various courses. At present, several surgical procedures and new approaches offered by the scientist are successfully implemented in the clinic.

Professor S.Imamverdiyev was chairman of Gerontology Society since 1984-1991, head of the Ministry of Health since 1986, member of the Presidium of the Union Gerontologists Society since 1989, and in 1990 he was elected member of the All-Union Urology Society.

Academician became a corresponding member of ANAS in 2001, a full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2011, Honorary Member of Turkey Andrologists in 2007, and 2002 Georgian Urologist Associations. He is also a member of the Editorial Board and Council of several magazines in our country and abroad. Under his leadership, the Association of Urologists was established in 2004 and is successfully continuing its activities today. With the support of the scientist in 2007 our country has organized Andrology and Reproductive Medicine Association, and S. Imamverdiyev was elected as honorary chairman. He is an active member of the European Urology Associa- tion since 1993.

S.Imamverdiyev was awarded with the title of academician Yusif Mammadaliyev for his outstanding contribution to science and education in 2006. According to his scientific and pedagogical activity, the scientist was awarded with Gold medal of European quality, Labor and Science (Laboret Scienita) medal, Vernadski Medal (2010) by the European Scientific and Industrial Consortium (European Scientific and Industrial Consortium) and Nobel Alfred Bernhard (2011).

By the order of the President of the country, S. Imamverdiyev was awarded with the Order of “Glory” in 2000, the title of “Honored Scientist” in 2008, the “Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2013” and in 2017 he was awarded a scholarship.

Professor S. Imamverdiyev, who always actively participated in the social and political life of the country, was a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the independent Azerbaijan (I and II call) in 1995-2005. He has been Deputy Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Republic of Azerbaijan since 2013.

A well-known scientist and public figure, sincerely congratulates on the 80th jubilee of the great intellectual, patriotic man S. Imamverdiyev, who has an inborn talent, and wish him success in the development of science and progress of medicine!
