Yilmaz Selim Erdal, Professor of Anthropology at Hajettepe University in Turkey, has started his research at the Scientific Foundation of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS at the invitation of the institute.
Research is conducted by Mehmet Somel, a fellow of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Middle East Technical University of Turkey, under the project "Neogen: Archeogenomic Analysis of Genetic and Cultural Mutual Interactions in Neolithic Anatolian Civilizations."
The project is supported by the European Union Horizon 2020, Consolidator Grant European Research Council and Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK).
Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University and Swedish Stockholm University laboratories are involved in the research.
Examples of DNA analysis from the skeletons of neolithic people found in the territory of Azerbaijan within the project will be studied in the latest technology-equipped laboratories in Turkey and Sweden.
The archaeological expedition is the headed by the department of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, PhD in History Farhad Guliyev.
It should be noted that the Turkish scientist has already got acquainted with the Goytapa Neolithic Monument in Tovuz region and underlined the importance of further research projects for the DNA and isotope analysis of paleoanthropological materials found in monuments in Azerbaijan.
