A training was held at the Central Botanical Garden of ANAS under the project "Geographical Information Systems (GIS) School" supported by the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The training, held by the head of Information Technology Department of the garden, Yusif Abiyev, was dedicated to the topic "Using GPS devices in field studies."
The participants were informed about the live collection of the Central Botanical Garden and the research work carried out here. Theoretical and practical exercises were held on GPS navigator's work principles, types, areas to be used, coordinate assignment, GPS coordinate points, and GPS navigation.
The training will continue with practical exercises on the use of coordinates received in Google Earth and ArcGIS10 software, use of software in landscape architecture and 3D dendro-plans.
