Head of the Archaeological Research Expedition on Christian Monuments of the Caucasus Albania of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, leading researcher of the ancient period archeology department, PhD in history Natig ALishov defined the tower as a Monument of Christianity in the Caucasus Albania.
The expedition continued excavation at the temple of the monument on July 2-31, 2018. The baked bricks have been fully explored here, and the location of the cross-stone has been determined in the altar section.
In the current research season, studies have been conducted to determine the precise contours of the doorway that were observed on the northern wall of the church. It was determined that the north entrance door was built on four columns and was burnt from burnt bricks. It was determined that the floor found in the study was removed from three places in the east-west direction.
During archaeological investigations, two pieces of stone boxes were found on the dismantled part of the floor, and one was found on the ground graveyard, and traces of stone burials were found in the stone graves. In the number one graveyard, a small number of bones of the first skeleton were encountered, and the second skull was found to be the second part of the skeleton. Five skeletal traces found in three graves were submitted to the relevant laboratory for conducting anthropological investigations.
As a result of two years of research, the architectural structure of the monument was determined by 70 percent. In the future it is planned to carry out complex research to revive the living conditions in the monument and its surroundings.
According to Natig Alishov, the archeological researches in the Christian monuments of the Caucasus Albania prove once again that there is no scientific basis at the root of unfounded claims on the rich material culture of our people.
