Scientific-practical conference “Targets of National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan for 2014-2020: achievements, problems and prospects”

May 16, Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS held a scientific-practical conference on “Targets of National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan for 2014-2020: achievements, problems and prospects”, which was dedicated on May 17 - World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Communications and High-tech and the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, attended by officials of the state, leading scientists and specialists of the country in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).

Deputy Minister of Communications and High Tech PhD in engineering Iltimas Mammadov opened the event, spoke on “The objectives of building the information society in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2014-2020”.

It was noted that in the years 2003-2013 the state has provided a lot of attention and care for the ICT, was implemented targeted, comprehensive and coherent action.

Talking about the country's achievements in the field of ICT, I. Mammadov said that over the past five years, the country’s information technology sector increased approximately 2-fold, average annual growth of 17 percent.

Speaking of the “National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan for 2014-2020”, the speaker stressed that the upcoming goals are the creation of the information society, sustainable use of its creative possibilities for the development of individuals and society, the full application of ICT in public administration.

Noted that, in order to achieve the objectives defined in the strategy in the next 10 years it is necessary to broaden the scope of the information and communication technologies 4-4.5 times, to strengthen the economic potential of ICT and to meet the needs of society in this area.

Director of the Institute of Information Technologies, academician- secretary of ANAS Rasim Alguliev made a presentation on the topic of scientific and theoretical problems of the information society.

Stressed out that, at the present time in our country, as well as throughout the world, successfully carried out the process of building the information society, which is the ideology of the millennium. Already had achieved a number of successes in this area, and implemented important projects. “National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan for 2014-2020” approved by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 2, 2014, laid the foundation for the next stage in this area. ICT infrastructure and services, strengthening scientific and technological capabilities in the field of high technology, the development of “E-Government”, information privacy, development of national content, etc. are the main directions of this strategy.

Executive Director of the State Information Technology Development Fund Elchin Zeynalov spoke about the development of entrepreneurship in the field of ICT. He highlighted the development of innovative entrepreneurship, the creation of new innovative companies, knowledge-based and high- tech products, the expansion of measures to support their access to the world market.

Speaking at the conference, Director of the Institute of Control Systems of ANAS Telman Aliyev, professor Rena Mirzazadeh, president of Azerbaijan Internet Forum Osman Gunduz and others spoke about the future development of ICT work to be done in the future, problems and challenges.

In conclusion, were awarded the winners of Republican Olympiad in Informatics held among students of higher educational institutions.
