Discovered ancient buildings in the territory of "Shabran Town" Historical Reserve

Archeological excavations were carried out under the leadership of head of department of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS Safar Ashurov at the beginning of September and October at the territory of "Shabran city" Historical Reserve on the new highway till the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation borders .

The main purpose of the expedition is to check whether there are significant architectural monuments or buildings in the area, and to identify the boundaries of the ancient city.

An archaeological excavation of six square meters was carried out on the area adjacent to the Baku-Guba-Russia Frontier, which is part of the Shabran City Historic Reserve. As a result of preliminary investigations, the walls of streets, baked bricks and rocks stained with tea were discovered.

It has been discovered that the cultural layer is thicker. An archaeological excavation in one of the squares was carried out to a depth of 4 meters.

According to preliminary research remains of the building and material culture are referred to the XI-XV centuries have been discovered.

According to the head of Shabran Archeological Expedition, PhD in history Safar Ashurov, researches on "Shabran city" Historical Preserve are of exceptional importance for deeper study of the state of Shirvanshahs and in general the history of Azerbaijan.
