President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh noted this at the Republican scientific-practical conference "Multidisciplinary problems of growing and yields of pomegranates", which was held in Goychay.

Academician said that, for the first time in the world, our scientists was sequenced genome of Azerbaijani pomegranate sort “Guleysha” and these genomic data were registered by the US National Center for Biotechnological Information (NCBI). Scientist also stressed that, for the first time, as a result of the cooperation of ANAS and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations the coordinates of local varieties of pomegranate of national selection were mapped in more than 10 regions of Azerbaijan.

Using the geographic information system (GIS) was analyzed the level of distribution of pomegranate in the country, by modern methods have studied and passported a genetic variety of the grades and forms of pomegranate which are available in collections.
