Institute of Economy held the International conference dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Oriental historian, Honored Worker of Science, academician Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh at ANAS main muilding on December 21.

Director of the Institute, Professor Nazim Imanov told about the life and scientific activities of a famous teacher. He noted that, Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh had made a significant contribution to the development of economic science in the country.

He created his own school in the field of studying the economic history of Azerbaijan. Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh trained highly qualified.

Academician-secretary of the Division of Humanitarian Sciences, academician Nargiz Akhundova told on the life and scientific - pedagogical activity of an outstanding scientist. Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh was a researcher of the socio-economic history of the beginning of XIX – XX centures. In 1957 - 1959 Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh was the Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences of SSR, in 1959 - 1963 - head of the Department of the Institute of Economy, in 1963 - 1969 - Director of the Institute of Near and Middle East Peoples, in 1970 - 1972 - Institute of History, in 1982 - 1992 he headed the Department of the Scientific Information Center for Social Sciences.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals, awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Corresponding Member of ANAS Shahbaz Muradov delivered a paper on “An outstanding representative of Azerbaijani socio-economic thought of the twentieth century - academician Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh”, Professor Inglab Alibekov on “The role of academician Alisohbat Sumbatzadeh in the development of Oriental Studies” and Ph.D. in History Haji Hasanov on "One of the founders of Azerbaijani historiography of the twentieth century."
