Institute of Geology and Geophysics has acquired important scientific results in 2018

ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) reported on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities for 2018 at a meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences of ANAS on December 27.

President of ANAS, Director of the institute, academician Akif Alizadeh opened the meeting and stressed that important steps have been taken in the development of science in Azerbaijan in recent years. The scientist mentioned the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated April 9, 2018 “On the establishment of Day of Science”. Along with the attention and care of the state head on science, this step is part of a targeted public policy to transform the scientific factor into a driving force in the country.

In his speech, Academician A.Alizadeh told about the 80th anniversary of the scientific institution headed by him, in which many scientists from foreign countries took part. He noted that, on the eve of the anniversary, the state head signed the relevant orders on awarding a group of scientists for their achievements in the development of the science of geology and geophysics in the country.

Then, President of the academy by the presidential decree awarded head of the Mud Volcanism Department of the Institute, Professor Adil Aliyev the Order “Shohrat”. Speaking Professor Adil Aliyev thanked President Ilham Aliyev and academician A.Alizadeh for the high award.

He noted that, the World Atlas of Mud Volcanoes was published 3 years ago in Italy, the Institute achieved significant scientific results in this area.

Then, Academician-Secretary of the Division, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov acquainted the participants with the agenda items. Speaking about the tasks and prospects facing the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, scientist said that, next year it is planned to further expand research in the IGG, organize meetings, strengthen international scientific relations and conduct other events.

Then, Deputy Director for scientific Affairs of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS Dadash Huseynov presented a report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activity of the institution for 2018. The speaker noted that, in 2018 the scientific research was carried out on 3 tasks covering 11 topics and 16 scientific works, 4 of them were completed, and 12 are ongoing. D.Huseynov brought to the attention that, part of the scientific work was carried out jointly with the National Research Council of Italy, the University of Michigan, USA, as well as with other international organizations and scientific structures.

He also informed on the work done in international laboratories, research within grant projects and the preparation of new projects. He noted that, in the reporting year are considered 2 projects submitted for participation at the ANAS - TUBITAK competition. The scientists of the institute published 53 scientific articles in foreign publishing houses, 32 were published in journals with impact factor.

With the support of ANAS, SOCAR, BP and TOTAL the VII International Conference for Young Scientists and Specialists was held - “The Role of Information Technologies in Solving Modern Problems of Geology and Geophysics” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics.

At the end of the report, Ibrahim Guliyev, Vasif Babazade, Arif Ismailzadeh, Khatam Guliyev, Parviz Mamedov, corresponding member of ANAS Tulparkhan Salvatov, Professor Hikmet Makhmudov and others took in discussions.

In conclusion, academician Akif Alizadeh spoke about the new challenges facing the institute, the benefits of advanced technologies in scientific research and other issues. The scientist congratulated the staff of the institute on December 31 - the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year, wishing them success in their activities.
