From the 30s of the 20th century, information about the Paleolithic period monuments in Absheron and various opinions on archeology based on some random findings of this period are included. The lack of findings from the Paleolithic period and the fact that the settlements in this region were not discovered.
In the west of New Surakhani in 2003, materials of the Great Paleolithic Period were discovered. However, due to the small number of discovered materials and subsequent land and archeological researches, the Paleolithic period in Absheron was insufficient for the problem of anthropogenesis.
In December 2018, during the reconnaissance work of the Absheron Archeological Expedition headed by department head at ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography Idris Aliyev, a large number of tools were discovered during the Stone Age era in Balakhani and Mohammadi settlements.
Experts have conducted a comparative analysis of the materials and, according to preliminary estimates, these findings are related to the middle phase of the paleolith.
According to Idris Aliyev, ancient paleontological materials found in geological sediments show that the region has rich fauna in the paleolith.
The archaeologist noted that more thorough research of areas around the Binagadi and Balakhani settlements, particularly the surrounding areas of Binagadi Gyrgolu, would lead to a study of the settlement problem in the region.
