A conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of ANAS correspondent member Demir Hajiyev

On February 7, ANAS hosted a conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of prominent biologist, physician and educator, correspondent member of ANAS Demir Hajiyev at the main building of ANAS.

Speaking at the event organized by the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences (DBMS), head of ANASç academician Akif Alizadeh talked about D.Hajiyev's exceptional services in the development and propagation of Azerbaijan's medical science and high human qualities of the scientist. He noted that he had gained special respect among those who knew him through his intellectual level, mentality and character.

The head of ANAS, shared his memories of the outstanding scientist and noted that he headed the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics of the Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) in 1964-1999 and significant changes in the scientific-research and educational programs of the department.

Then, academician-secretary of DBMS, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov informed about scientific, pedagogical and social activity of outstanding scientist. He noted that D.Hajiyev's activity was related to AMU, he worked for more than 30 years in this educational institution.

Scientist's research was paleontology, paleobiology, paleoteratology and paleopathology, as well as zoology, stratigraphy, medical biology, medical genetics and space biology, the speaker added.

Later, the report was made by the head of the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics of AMU, Associate Professor Vagif Karimov on "Scientific and scientific-organizational activities of corresponding member of ANAS Demir Hajiyev". For a long time, the scientist studied the Miocene fauna of Eurasia (hipparion). Describing the new breeds and types of ancient mammals, he studied the multistage ancient human camp in the Azykh cave, the speaker said.

The event has been attended by the rector of the University, Professor Garay Garaybeyli, Director of the Institute of Physiology, Doctor in Biology Ulduz Hashimova, Director of Nature History Museum, PhD in Biology Tariyel Eybatov, Head of the Department of Archeology and Ethnography Institute, Doctor of Historical Sciences Asadulla Jafarov and others shared memories about the scientist, spoke about his human qualities, rich scientific creativity.

In the end, a documentary film about Professor Demir Hajiyev has been demonstrated.
