Seminar on “Modern international relations and foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan” held

II Special Department of ANAS Presidium held a seminar on “Modern international relations and foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

Even was attentend by chiefs of the Civil Defense (CD) headquarters of scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS. Head of the Department Eldar Guliyev informed about the issues on the agenda.

E.Guliyev noted that, seminars, trainings and other activities on civil defense are organized in accordance with the “Law on Civil Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of September dated 25, 1998 “On Ensuring Civil Defense” and recommendations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Regarding the topic of the seminar, he noted that, Azerbaijan is a member of the UN, OSCE, CIS, the Council of Europe and other international organizations as an independent state, and also cooperates with the European Union and NATO. According to him, today the Republic of Azerbaijan is considered as an active participant, contributing to the establishment of cooperation in the modern system of international relations, as well as in matters of global security, such as transitional projects and the energy security of Europe. E.Guliyev noted that, our country plays the role of a corridor between the civilizations of the East-West, the North and the South.

The foreign policy under the leadership of AR President Ilham Aliyev contributed to strengthening the power and influence of Azerbaijan in the modern system of international relations.

Then, Deputy Director of the Institute of History, PhD in History Jabi Bahramov reported on “Modern international relations and foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan”. The scientist said that, the foundation of modern international relations was laid at the end of the Second World War in 1945, and the main goal of the political processes that followed the second half of the 20th century was the collapse of the USSR. The biggest blow to the South Caucasus as a result of the collapse of the USSR in 1991 was dealt to Azerbaijan and 7 of our regions were occupied as a result of the armed aggression of Armenia.

He recalled the signing of the “Contract of the Century” by the national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The scientist said today that, Azerbaijan ranks 52nd out of 137 countries and 30th in terms of its military potential.
