Presentation of academician Ramiz Mehdiyev's book "The history of the Khanates' political heritage in the light of documents" at ANAS

On April 5, the Presidium of ANAS hosted a presentation of the book by Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev "The history of the Khanates' political heritage in the light of documents" at the Presidium of ANAS. Members of Presidium of ANAS, representatives of institutes and organizations as well as leading scientists of the republic took part in the event.

Opening the event, academician Akif Alizadeh, President of ANAS, said that this book is a significant contribution to our history and a valuable source for young historians. Head of ANAS noted that R.Mehdiyev created a perfect historical base for the further development of humanitarian and social sciences in the history of Azerbaijan.

Then Vice President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli made a report on "Conceptual research on the history of the khanates in Azerbaijan". He said that the book "The history of the Khanates' political heritage in the light of documents" has been of great scientific significance for academician R.Mehdiyev's fundamental researches and opened new opportunities for new research.

I.Habibbeyli considered the book as rich in archival materials, important historical sources, comprehensive comparisons, written in deep analysis and contributing to our historiography. Ramiz Mehdiyev's research on the Safavids and Nadir Shah was one of the most important achievements in the field of Azerbaijani history, the speaker underlined.

I.Habibbeyli noted that historical research dedicated to the history of the khanates, which is presented to us today, is a valuable work which serves to fill the void between Safavids - Afsar authorities. The history of the Khanate era is evaluated with correct, objective criteria, the true essence of statehood, developmental trends. This political, precious work presented to the public is of great importance both in terms of history and sociology.

The main outcome of the research is that the khanates of Azerbaijan should be re-written on the principle of objectivity from the point of view of the Azerbaijani ideology on the basis of primary sources. In this regard, Ramiz Mehdiyev's researches in recent years can be called new type of historical research.

Later, director of the ANAS Institute of History, acad. Yagub Mahmudov said that this book is an important scientific step taken to assess the period of the Khanates, one of the most painful and sensitive stages of the history of Azerbaijan, on the basis of political documents which are still unknown to our historiography. He said that a total of 22 original documents were included in the research, dedicated to the political analysis and historical evaluation of the period of the collective Khanate.

Director of the Institute of Caucasian Studies, corresponding member of ANAS Musa Gasimli expressed his confidence that the work will help to eliminate many wrong approaches and interpretations of the period of Khanates, and will help to form a more systematic and fair view of the issue in the history of Azerbaijan, in public opinion.

 Director of the Institute of Philosophy of ANAS, Professor Ilham Mammadzadeh, Head of the Department of Institute of Literature named after N.Ganjavi, Professor Tahira Mammad and Deputy Director of the Institute of Caucasian Studies Shahin Yahyayev shared their views on the book.

It was noted that all the documents presented in the book are accompanied by relevant comments and explanations. The work is intended for both professional historians and readers interested in the history of Azerbaijan.

At the end of the speeches were extensive discussions about the book "The history of the Khanates' political heritage in the light of documents".
