Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Geographical Society (AGS) and the X Congress was held in Gabala with the support of ANAS Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev.

Speaking at the event, director of the Institute of Geography, president of AGS, academician Ramiz Mammadov noted that the Azerbaijani Geographical Society, which plays a coordinating and guiding role in the development of science, has become an influential organization.

The scientist who delivered a lecture on "Azerbaijan Geographical Society in 80 years" spoke about the history of this organization, prominent scientists, structural and branch divisions, priorities, international relations, publishing activities, geography education in secondary and higher education, achievements, public relations and so on. He noted that geographers' research is aimed at strengthening and developing the country's economy.

Then discussions were held on the themes and proposals were sounded. The draft resolution, previously distributed to the participants, was approved in the second reading, taking into account suggestions.

In the end, organizational issues were considered. The 23-member member of the Presidium has been approved. Academician Ramiz Mammadov was reelected president of Azerbaijan Geographical Society, Associate Professor Maharram Hasanov First Vice President, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Shakar Mammadova and PhD in Geography Sahin Panahov vice presidents of the society.
