Lankaran hosts event on "Potential of tea growing and citrus development in Azerbaijan"

A scientific-practical seminar was held on "Potential of tea growing and citrus development in Azerbaijan" organized by Agricultural Science and Information Advisory Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Institute for Research on Fruit and Tea Growing (IRFTG), Lankaran Regional Agrarian Science Information Center (LRASIC) and Lankaran Regional Science Center of ANAS (LRSC).

The seminar was opened by LRSC Director Teyyub Rzayev and informed the participants about the purpose of the event.

Later, IRFTG Director, Ilham Gurbanov, talked about the work done to improve the scientific support of the agrarian sector in our country and the "State Program for the Tea Growing Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018-2027".

Deputy Director of IRFTG Vahid Aliyev made a report on "Current state of tea in Azerbaijan".

The seminar participants then visited the Lankaran tea branch of IRFTG , get acquainted with the director of ANAS LRSC, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Farman Guliyev's experience in growing new tea varieties. At the meeting with the guests, F.Guliyev spoke about the work done to raise more productive tea varieties and positive results. He said that research has been carried out in the direction of "Collecting and sorting of tea plant, introducing, studying, selecting the most valuable ones, creating new varieties in Lankaran-Astara region.

According to him, new clusters of high-yield and high-quality tea obtained by clone selection method can play an important role in the development of tea-growing on modern scientific basis in the country.

The professor said that the work was continued to get more productive, drought-resistant and cold-resistant tea varieties.

Stanislav Prixodko, a representative of the UN Office for Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), expressed satisfaction with the work done and noted the possibility of implementing cooperation projects with Azerbaijan in the future.
