An exhibition titled "10th Anniversary of Azerbaijan-France Joint Archaeological Surveys" was opened at the Azerbaijan National Art Museum on July 4 with the support of the Embassy of France in our country, Presidium of ANAS, Institute of Archeology and Ethnography.
The event was attended by President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh, Minister of Culture Abulfaz Garayev, former Minister of Environment of France Segolene Royal, Azerbaijani and French archeologists, as well as media representatives.
The rare findings of great importance for world archeology have been demonstrated during the exhibition for over 10 years, as a result of joint research carried out by archaeologists from both countries.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev emphasized the significance of the 43rd session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Baku for our country and note that Azerbaijan hosted many grand events. It was noted that as a result of the great services of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan's relations with UNESCO are at a high level.
Later, French archeologist Bertie Lione talked about archeological researches in Azerbaijan. He said that he did not only find ancient objects in archaeological excavations in the regions of Azerbaijan, but also studied the lives, environment, social and family relations of the people living there.
French former Minister of Environment Segolene Royal spoke about the scientific cooperation between the two countries and thanked the Ministry of Culture, the National Museum of Art, the ANAS and the French Embassy for organizing the exhibition.
More than 200 material and cultural samples were found during archaeological excavations on the territory of Monidigah village of Lerik region with the joint efforts of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, National Research Center of France and Sen-Jermen National Museum in Paris.
As a result of the excavations conducted in the Tovuz region, the ancient settlement of Mentes revealed a long history, from the Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age.
It should be noted that according to the agreement signed between the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography and Lumiere University Lyon2 in March 2 2017, the exhibition which reflects the results of joint cooperation between Azerbaijani and French archeologists, is planned to be organized in Paris and Tbilisi in the future.
