ANAS Nakhchivan Branch has hosted for a scientific conference on topic “The first linguist-scientist Mammadagha Shiraliyev” devoted to notable scientist, State Laureate, Honored Figure, academic Mammadagha Shiraliyev’s 110th anniversary.

Chairman of the branch academic Ismayil Hajiyev opened the event, organizing by Institute of Art, Language and Literature, and reminded President Ilham Aliyev’s Order dated July 19, 2019 on the celebrating 110th anniversary of academic Mammadagha Shiraliyev. He stated that, this document is of great importance from viewpoint of promoting scientist, having had exceptional merits in linguistics of Azerbaijan.

Making speech about his creativity, I. Hajiyev stressed out that, M. Shiraliyev had great services in creation and development of Azerbaijan linguistics and its recognition in the whole world, including in Turkic countries.

It was noted that in addition to his scientific activity, M. Shiraliyev did a great job in the field of education. A prominent scientist has devoted more than 50 years of his life to the study of theoretical and applied problems of linguistics. As a result of valuable research on the application of the Azerbaijani language, M. Shiraliyev published numerous scientific articles and books in different years. His fundamental work “Fundamentals of Azerbaijani dialectology” was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to I.Hajiyev, Mammadaga Shiraliyev also played an important role in the training of highly skilled linguists, especially dialectologists.

Under his leadership, more than 40 PhDs of sciences and doctors were trained.

It was noted that, Mammagaga Shiraliyev is the founder of linguistic geography in Azerbaijan philological science, which is valuable for our scientific heritage.

Under his leadership, was composed the "Dialectological Atlas of the Azerbaijani Language", consicting from 128 maps.

The conference also listened papers by Director of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature, correspondent member of ANAS Abulfaz Guliyev, head of the linguistics Department of the Institute, PhD in Philology, associate professor Nuray Aliyeva, Leading resercher of the Department of Linguistics, PhD in Philology, associate professor Zulfiya Ismaili and head of the Onomastics Department, Ph.D in Philology, associate professor Firudin Rzayev.
