“Physics of Stars and Planets” international conference holds in Shamakhi

On September 16, Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory (SAR) named after Nasiraddin Tusi of ANAS hosts an international conference dubbed “Physics of Stars and planets”, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the very organization and the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union.

The event is attended by prominent scientists from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Georgia, Tajikistan, Sweden, India and Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the conference is to integrate the SAR’s research activities into the world science, to establish new creative connections and to provide access to international research programs.

The event was opened by the director of Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, corresponding member of ANAS Namig Jalilov, who made a report on the successful development of 60 years of his organization, its scientific achievements and future plans.

Later on, vice-president of ANAS Rasim Alguliyev addressed the participants the appeal of President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Akif Alizadeh in conncetion with 60th anniversary of the SAO. According to the appeal, the observatory with history of for more than half a century has been reconstructed, thanks to the care and attention of President Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that the observatory is currently at the highest stage of its development, and international projects and grants, which the SAO staff participates in, are a clear indication of this.

Academician-secretary of the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences Academician Nazim Mammadov noted the importance of conducting the international event, recalling the staff’s European Union's FP7 and Horizon 2020 grants in recent years.

Speaking at the conference, head of the Shamakhi District Executive Power Tahir Mammadov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor of Kazan University Nail Sakhibulin and others congratulated the team on the anniversary and said that the event will promote the development of international relations of the observatory.

The conference will run until September 20, during which the latest scientific advances in the physics of the universe and its structural elements (galaxies, stars, planets) will be discussed.
