Scientific conference on the occasion well-known writer and scholar of Abbasgulu Bakihanov’s 220th year anniversary was held at Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS. First, the event participants familiarized with the exhibition, reflecting life and creativity of the prominent writer which was organized by the staff of institute. The Vice-president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayliopened the conference and in detail told about the work done in Soviet period to study heritage of the Azerbaijan writer and scholar, the great educator Abbasgulu Bakihanov. The Academician reported that in days of independence it is necessary to look at life and creativity of the prominent writer once again. From this point of view the Order of the President Ilham Aliyev on “Holding the Abbasgulu Bakihanov’s 220th year anniversary” from February 12, 2014 has great historical value. Director of ANASNational Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, corresponding member of ANAS Rafael Huseynov in his report on “A talented scientist with an encyclopedic type of mind in the Muslim East and Abbasgulu Bakixanov” especially emphasized recognition by contemporaries of comprehensive talent and deep mind of the prominent writer, and that first of all he was patriotic intellectual. Deputy Director of the Institute of Manuscripts, Ph.D. Pasha Karimov in the report on " Abbasgulu Bakihanov’s hand-written heritage” gave information on works of the prominent writer and manuscripts which are stored in research establishment, various libraries and archives. Head of Department of History, PhD on history Haji Hasanov made the report in “Abbasgulu Bakihanov’s page in development of history of the Azerbaijan historiography” and told about his activity in the field of a historiography, in particular about a work “Gyulistani-Iram” role in history development. The Senior Researcher of Institute of Literature, Doctor of Philology Konul Nakhmatova in the report on “A new view on Abbasgulu Bakihanov’s work “Kitabi-Askeriye” gave information on results of new researches of this work. Finally Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Director of the Institute of Manuscripts, corresponding member of ANAS Teymur Karimli made a speech with concluding remarks. He told about need of return to researches and the edition of heritage of classics, especially noted care of the country leaders in this area.

The event was attended by representatives of research institutes representing the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of ANAS and other representatives of the scientific community.
