Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Professor Refig Turan, chairman of the Turkic History Organization at the Ataturk Higher Institute of Culture, Language and History of the Republic of Turkey, was awarded a diploma of honorary doctorate of ANAS Institute of History.

Notable scientist was awarded this honorary title for his great contribution to the development of Azerbaijani-Turkish scientific relations.

The diploma was presented to Refig Turan at the enlarged meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of History in the main building of ANAS on November 29.

Opening the ceremony, director of the Institute academician Yagub Mahmudov said that after Azerbaijan gained independence, economic, political, scientific, literary and cultural relations between the two countries expanded. He noted that Ataturk Higher Institute of Culture, Language and History plays an important role in expanding these ties.

Later on, vice - president of ANAS academician Isa Habibbayli said that one of the great achievements of our independence was the re-establishment of relations with Turkey. National leader Heydar Aliyev and 9th President of Turkey Suleyman Demirel played an important role in establishing and strengthening of these relations. Referring to the words of the national leader, "One nation, two states", academician said today friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are at a high level and both countries support and defend each other's positions in international organizations.

According to the vice-president of ANAS, Atatürk Higher Institute of Culture, Language and History is one of the main scientific centers of the Turkic world and former leaders of the organization, professors Rashad Genj, Sadik Tural and Refig Turan has contributed to the establishment and strengthening of scientific relations between the two countries. I. Habibbayli stated that, R. Turan deserves a diploma of honorary doctorate of ANAS Institute of History for his scientific activity and personal qualities.

Then he presented the award and gift to the guest.

In conclusion, Refig Turan spoke about ANAS’s world scaled status, researches and conferences conducted with the Institute of History. The scientist expressed his gratitude for a diploma of honorary doctorate and presented gifts to academician I. Habibbayli and Y. Mahmudov.
