Presentation of LOLA audio-visual broadcasting system held at Baku Music Academy

Presentation of LOLA audio-visual broadcasting system held at Baku Music Academy

On December 20, a presentation of the LOLA (Low Latency Audiovisual Streaming System) audio-visual broadcasting system was held at the Baku Music Academy named after U. Hajibayli.

The event was organized by the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, Baku Music Academy and European Association of Scientific and Educational Networks (GEANT).

Speaking at the ceremony, rector of the Baku Academy of Music, People’s Artist, Professor Farhad Badalbeyli informed about the new system. It was noted that aimed at providing real-time musical performances, this system, using advanced network services, brings together artists and musicians who are physically far away from each other. He emphasized that the new technology, designed to replace trips that lead to a big loss of time, with online connections, allows artists and musicians to participate in events in different geographical areas.

It was noted that the LOLA audio-visual broadcasting system was implemented as part of the EaPConnect (Eastern Partnership Connect) project, which brings together EU partners.

Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Gurbanov said that such a system was first introduced in the country at the Baku Music Academy. He said that thanks to the synthesis of music and modern technology, viewers will be able to attend various meetings, concerts and master classes regardless of distance. From the first day, the Ministry of Education supported the project, saying that in our country there is sufficient experience in the field of distance education.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev, vice president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technology, who spoke further, said that work on the implementation of the project in our country began in 2015. He noted that, as a result of the farsighted policy of President Ilham Aliyev, our country joined the Eastern Partnership initiative and took a number of steps to integrate the Azerbaijani system of science and education into the European system of science and education. Over the past five years, the ministries of education, transport, communications and high technologies, as well as ANAS, have successfully supported the policy pursued by the head of state in this direction: “Five years ago it was impossible to talk about LOLA in Azerbaijan. We needed a high-quality technological infrastructure and technological environment. To implement this work, we have expanded our technological capabilities and used high-tech services. Today, 18 universities in our country use the high-tech services we have achieved. Today, universities and institutions in the country have the same opportunities as European educational institutions.”

Noting the importance of the project, R. Alguliyev said that the system will provide an excellent opportunity to promote the intellectual music and culture of Azerbaijan through the virtual space.

Academician R. Alguliyev brought to attention that the LOLA audio-visual broadcasting system, which has a large coverage network, is connected to 107 music centers in 80 cities in 30 countries of the world. The scientist expressed confidence that the leading forces of Azerbaijani musical culture will widely use this system. He said that the next LOLA system will be installed at the Conservatory of Nakhchivan State University.

Then the presentation of the LOLA system took place.

The event continued with a virtual concert program of Azerbaijani and Estonian musicians.
