“20th of January - Eternal history in memories and modern challenges” event held

On January 17, Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi  jointly organized by the Division of Humanitarian Sciences of ANAS and Women's Council, held an event on topic "20 January - Eternal history in memories and modern challenges”.

In advance, participants of the ceremony familiarized with the exhibition "Bloody January", which reflects the tragedy of January 20.

Speaking at the event, first vice-president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature academician Isa Habibbayli, in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev "On celebrating the 30th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy" dated December 13, 2019, commemorations were held in the republic and beyond it.

Academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the political processes that took place 30 years ago and touched upon the main causes of the tragedy. He said only national leader Heydar Aliyev, along with his family members, despite all the difficulties, came to the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow on January 21, 1990 and strongly condemned the crime and made a statement. In the following years, at the recommendation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a special session, and the political-legal assessment was given to this bloody event.

A chronicle should be conducted due to evaluate 20 January tragedy from scientific viewpoint, and Division of Humanities set up vital tasks in this direction, academician said.

Then, chairman of Women’s Council PhD in Philology Assoc. Prof. Aynur Khalilova, deputy director of science of the Institute of Philosophy Doctor of Historical sciences Eynulla Madatli, chief department of the Institute of Literature Doctor of Philological sciences Almaz Ulvi and others delivered lectures at the event.
