Azerbaijani scientists’ vital contribution to the world science

The paper on topic “Preliminary Reference Model of the Earth”, co-authored by the department head of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS, academician Hatam Guliyev and corresponding member of ANAS Rashid Javanshir, was published in the authoritative journal “Earth and Space Science” of the American Geophysical Union.

In the paper, Azerbaijani scientists proved that the model is not geomechanically correct, and by creating a method of nonlinear geomechanical analysis, they established inaccuracies made during the formation of the Preliminary Reference Model of the Earth.

The work fulfilled, along with having outstanding fundamental value, also has great innovative potential in the study of oil and gas fields and the seismicity of the region.

Note that the Preliminary reference model of the Earth was presented to the international scientific community in 1981 by the president of the American Geophysical Union D. Anderson and the famous professor A. Jevonsky. For the aforementioned study in 1989, scientists were awarded the Crowdoff Prize (this prize in the field of earth sciences is equal to the Nobel Prize). The model has so far been used to solve many geological and geophysical problems.
