On February 21, international scientific conference "Studying Literary and Scientific Heritage of Alisher Navoi" was held at the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi, dedicated to the 579th anniversary of the great Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi.
The event was organized jointly with the Institute of Literature, Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan and Tashkent State University of the Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi.
In advance, the conference participants laid wreaths and flowers in front of the monument to Alisher Navoi, erected in Baku. Then, Alisher Navoi Center for Literary Studies was opened at the Literary Relations Department of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan, Institute of Literature.
Opening the event, first vice-president of ANAS director of the Institute of Literature academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the history of Azerbaijani-Uzbek literary relations and said that both peoples have ancient and rich literary traditions. He emphasized that the erection of a monument to Alisher Navoi in Baku is an example of the development of Azerbaijani-Uzbek literary and cultural ties laid down by the great leader Heydar Aliyev.
It was noted that in order to study Uzbek literature in a scientific institution in 2016, the Department of Literary Relations of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan was created.
According to I. Habibbayli, Alisher Navoi continued Nizami’s heritage in the Middle Ages, and the outstanding Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fizuli was a source of his inspiration. He took a special place in world literature thanks to colorful literary samples.
The scientist said that the opening of the Alisher Navoi Literary Studies Center at the institute is a historical event and noted that studying the heritage of Nizami, Fizuli, Navoi and other prominent personalities will make a special contribution to the future of the two peoples.
Then I. Habibbayli handed over the diploma and gown of the honorary doctor of the Institute of Literature to Professor Shukhrat Sirojiddinov, rector of the Tashkent State University of the Uzbek language and literature.
Speaking at the event, Professor Shukhrat Sirojiddinov conveyed a greeting from the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Touching upon the history of relations between Turkic peoples, the scientist emphasized the importance of the first Turkological Congress, which was held in Baku in 1926.
He said the friendship between the two countries has expanded over the years of independence, adding that his election as an honorary doctor is a symbolic expression of appreciation and attention to Uzbek scholars.
S. Sirojiddinov presented academician Isa Habibbayli with anUzbek national costume decorated with national ornaments.
During the conference, Doctor of Philology Almas Binnatova and member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan Akif Bagirov was awarded an honorary membership certificate of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan.
Then, following lectures - “The work of Alisher Navoi and modern Uzbek poetry”, “Alisher Navoi and the problems of purity language”, “The word about the great Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi”, “Alisher Navoi and Azerbaijan” and “Lyrics of Alisher Navoi”, were listened.
