The cemetery was discovered on the southern slopes of Mount Kapaz, at an altitude of about 2500 meters above sea level. Most graves, which have surface signs and are located at a distance of 2-3 meters from each other, have inscriptions in the Arabic alphabet. In addition, several burial mounds were identified in the study area.
Archaeologist Elnur Imanov said that according to the epitaphs, most of the graves date to the end of the eighteenth century, and their orientation towards Qibla indicates that they belong to Muslims.
Anar Agalarzadeh, PhD in History, a leading researcher at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, noted that the words on the tombstones were written in Arabic in the style of nastalig with elements of suls.
Special attention was paid to the decoration of tombstones in the Kapaz cemetery, various ornaments are observed on the stones. Epigraphic inscriptions and drawings were developed using the relief method, as well as using carving.
