Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of ANAS conducts research on the organization of sustainable tourism in Azerbaijan and the potential of rural tourism.

At the initial stage, the resource base of rural tourism and the prospects for its use were studied. In addition, foreign experience in the development of rural tourism was studied. Based on the study, preliminary results were obtained.

It turned out that the mountain villages of the Guba and Gusar administrative districts are considered the most favorable for tourism because of their natural wealth. The mountain villages of Khinalig, Budug, Girizdehne, Haput, Jek, Kuzun and Laza of these regions attract tourists both by their nature and ethnic origin. The region has great potential for the development of religious, ethnographic, ecological and extreme tourism.
