Ancient Neolithic settlements in the Middle Kura basin studied

The head Department of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, PhD in History Farhad Guliyev studied the local aspects of the system of local settlements in the Middle Kura basin in the context of archaeological materials of the ancient Goytepe settlement in Tovuz. Thus, 45 radiocarbon analyzes of the 14 stages of the structures of the ancient settlement (phased construction of buildings) accurately determined the chronological framework of the settlements formed in the middle reaches of the Kura River. It was found that the monument dates from 5650 and 5460 years BC.

A radiocarbon analysis and study of archaeological materials of the Hajialamkhanli monument, located 1 km from the ancient Goytepe settlement, reflecting the existence of early Neolithic archaeological complexes in the South Caucasus in the Tovuz region, showed that the monument dates back 200 years earlier to the Goytepe monument. The research work carried out in this area over the past two years has created the conditions for the study of a new monument of the Neolithic era. The ancient settlement in the vicinity of the Goitepe monument - Kichiktepe attracts attention with its large rounded buildings.

Note that the study of ancient settlements of the Neolithic period in Goytepe and around it will continue in the coming years. In the course of interdisciplinary studies with the participation of foreign experts, it is planned to conduct a comparative analysis of the Neolithic processes in the Middle Kura basin and in the Araz river valley.
