The paper prepared by the Acting Head of the Seismology and Geomagnetism Department of the Earth Physics Section of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS, Doctor of Sciences in Earth Sciences Associate Professor Gulam Babayev, department staff and Italian Professor Luciano Teleska, was published in the journal “Pure and Applied Geophysics”, which is part of to the international “Springer” base.

In the paper entitled “Analysis of seismic hazard on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus”, two methods modified based on theories of quasi-probability and non-determinism were used to assess seismic hazard. In addition, using modern mathematical-statistical, integrated and deterministic methods (taking into account macroseismic parameters (for example, the strength of the shocks distributed in time and space, their activity, sequence) of earthquakes that occurred in 1902-2018), scientists developed seismic models scenario on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus with different coefficients.

The research paper assesses the effect of earthquakes on the seismically active Balakan-Zagatala, Sheki-Oguz-Gabala and Shemakhi-Ismayilli zones.
