The paper dubbed "Analysis of the relationship of seismicity and changes in water level over time on the territory of the Mingachevir reservoir (Azerbaijan)", co-authored by academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, acting head of the Department of Modern Geodynamics and Space Geodesy of the Earth Physics Department of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, acting head of the Department of Seismology and Geomagnetism, Doctor of Earth Sciences, Associate Professor Gulam Babayev,  a leading researcher at the Institute of Geology, PhD in Geological-Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor Rafig Safarov, as well as Director General of the Republican Center for Seismological Survey(RCSS), corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli, Head of the Department of Earthquake Dynamics, PhD in Geological- Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor Sabina Kazimova, RCSS Specialist Shirin Islamova and Italian Professor Luciano Telesca, published on the journal "Journal of Seismology", which is part of an international database of “Web of Science”.

Using the method of “analysis of periodograms based on a choreogram”, the paper shows that one of the causes of weak and moderate earthquakes within a radius of 30 km from the center of the Mingachevir reservoir is a sharp annual change in water level. The patterns of changes in this effect depending on depth and distance were also studied.

In accordance with the agreement on scientific cooperation signed between ANAS and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), the study was carried out jointly with the Department of Earth Sciences and Environment of the Institute of Environmental Analysis Methodology CNR within the framework of the project “Study of directional seismic impact and seismic hazard assessment in reservoir on the territory of Mingachevir (Azerbaijan). ”
