175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbaev celebrated at an international video conference

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Turkic Academy and the 175th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh poet, writer and enlightener Abay Kunanbayev, the international video conference “Abay and XXI century: Teacher of the centuries” was held.

Opening the online event, President of the International Turkic Academy, Darkhan Kidirali, announced that the President of Kazakhstan, Gasim-Zhomart Tokayev had signed a decree on the celebration of the 175th birthday of Abay Kunanbayev. He noted that the anniversary of the classic will be celebrated at the international level as part of the joint Action Plan of the International Turkic Academy and UNESCO. D.Kidirali also added that the TURKSOY organization declared the year 2020 “Year of Abay Kunanbayev” in the Turkic world, which will serve to further promote the general culture, literature and history of Turkic-speaking peoples in the world.

Then, head of the UNESCO office in Kazakhstan, Andrey Shevelev, Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan Askhat Aymagambetov and Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kirgizistan Azamat Zhamankulov spoke about the activities carried out in the field of propaganda of the classic’s heritage and called the writer's work the heritage of all mankind.

Then at the international conference, the ambassador of our republic in Kazakhstan, Rashad Mammadov has read out the text of the congratulatory letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In his speech at the event, the first vice-president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli said that Abay Kunanbayev praised the national moral values of the Kazakh people and was one of the great ideologists of the educational movement in Kazakhstan. Saying that the ideas of independence of Kazakhstan are widely reflected in the work of the classic, the academician added that the poetic works from the book “Black Word” addressed the Kazakh people with an appeal to fight for their better future.

Noting that the national leader Heydar Aliyev highly appreciated the work of Abay Kunanbayev, the speaker said that the great leader called the classic the pride of the entire Kazakh people, as well as a great writer belonging to all of humanity, including the Azerbaijani people. The academician emphasized that the works of the poet-philosopher were published several times in the Azerbaijani language in translations of such great poets as Suleyman Rustam, Mammad Rahim, Mammad Araz, Mirvarid Dilbazi. In addition, research was carried out in our country and monographs were written on the life and work of Abay, and one of the issues of the journal of the Institute of Literature “Comparative Literature” this year was completely devoted to the work of the writer.

Finally, the academician emphasized that the works of Abay call the world for peace, justice, equality and friendship, the poet’s work remains relevant at all times.

Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Sultan Raev, Deputy Secretary General of TURKPA Ali Yildiz, Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY Bilal Chakiji, Chairman of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO Ojal Oguz, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Batirkhan Kurmanseyit and others who spoke that celebrating the high-level classic's jubilee online during the coronavirus pandemic is an important literary m event.

Note that, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Turkic Academy, Darhan Kidirali was sent a congratulatory letter on behalf of the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev and first vice president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli.
