Institute of Folklore held a scientific conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev

On June 19, the ANAS Institute of Folklore hosted an online scientific conference "From Folklore to Written Literature: Laughter and Sadness" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the prominent representative of Azerbaijani literature, the famous public figure Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev.

The event was organized as part of the ANAS Action Plan in connection with the implementation of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev "On the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev" of January 31, 2020.

Opening an online conference, the director of the Institute of Folklore, Academician Mukhtar Imanov, touched on the life and work of an outstanding writer and spoke about aspects of his work related to oral folklore and folklore, especially folk humor. He said that Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev in his work used folk laughter in a peculiar form: “Combining laughter through tears and sadness, on the one hand, he paid attention to the painful problems of society, on the other hand, showed the complexity of human nature, the contradictions in human nature.”

Then lectures - “Laughter in tears (based on the works of A. Hagverdiev)”, “Narrative work of A. Hagverdiev and artistic symbolism”, “The influence of folklore on the poetics of A. Hagverdiev’s short stories”, “Mythological semantics of images in the work “Peri-jadu” by A. Hagverdiev" were listened.

An exchange of views on the reports took place. Academician Mukhtar Imanov, corresponding member of ANAS Kamran Aliyev, Ph.D. in Philology Aynur Ibrahimova attended the discussions.
