October 28, 2014 President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway in our country Bard Ivar Svendsen and president of the company “Statoil-Azerbaijan” Tanguy Cosmao. Welcoming the guests, the head of ANAS noted that if the science of Azerbaijan during the Soviet period developed within certain limits, after the restoration of independence, it became famous in Europe and America. This created conditions for the development of scientific relations with Norway. In the development of these ties, the cooperation between the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) ANAS and the company “Statoil” has played the special role. As part of a study aimed at the petroleum geology of cooperation have been carried out important studies and achieved effective results.

T. Cosmao stressed that IHH plays a big role in the success of the company “Statoil” in Azerbaijan and, in particular, in the studies in the north of the Apsheron Peninsula. The guest said that after the “Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli” it is important to find new oil fields, and recently his company has directed all their attention on this area. He also added that “Statoil” cooperates with a number of higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan. T. Cosmao considered it expedient to develop recommendations for the future development of innovative joint research in the field of science and technology.

Speaking about the research links between the two countries, the newly appointed Ambassador B.Svendsen noted that the Embassy intends to continue its work in the scientific field. For this purpose it is necessary to extend the communication and cooperation between scientists of both countries. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the work “Statoil” in Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the guests also discussed the integration of science in Azerbaijan in the world of science and organization of ANAS II stage of higher education –post graduate. It was noted that ANAS expands use of international experience in the field of youth training exercises. Put forward a proposal for young scientists and specialists of Azerbaijan to have doctoral education and professional development in Norway, and it was accepted with great enthusiasm.

Vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev said that IHH cooperates with Western countries belonging to the oil companies. The company “Statoil” occupies the top lines in the list.

In conclusion, academician A. Alizadeh invited the representatives of Norway to the “Baku Festival of Science 2014”, which was first held in the republic on November 10-11 this year. In turn, the guests expressed their desire to see the leadership academy in Norway.
