The principle of multidisciplinarity in the development of modern science

An interesting thought was expressed about the development of science by the famous scientist-physicist and public figure of Great Britain, the author of various scientific works in the field of physics, crystallography and biochemistry, John Desmond Bernal: “Science is not a subject of pure thinking, but an object of thinking, constantly involved in practice and constantly supported by practice ... That is why science cannot be studied in isolation from technology."

Since the mid-1980s. interdisciplinary research has become widespread in science. Multidisciplinary institutes and research centers have opened in the USA, European countries, Japan, Canada and other countries, and various interdisciplinary divisions have been created at universities. Moreover, it is interesting that this process was not initiated at the request of certain state programs, but began at the initiative of scientists and leaders of higher educational institutions.

As the widespread dissemination of interdisciplinary connections and multidisciplinarity in science gave impetus to growth in the social, political and economic spheres, such research began to be funded by governments. Also, the important scientific achievements in the field of biomedicine and other natural sciences have led to the formation of new disciplines: bionanoscience, molecular nanoscience, bioinformatics, etc.
