ANAS Institute of Genetic Resources held event dedicated to notable scientist, Honored scientist, corresponding member, prof. Idris Akhundzadeh’s 100th anniversary.

Deputy of academician-secretary of ANAS Department of Agrarian Sciences corresponding member Mahmud Abdullayev opened the event, informed about scientist’s honorable way of life and varied activity.

Later on, director of the institute corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Akperov delivered lecture “On the corresponding member of ANAS Idris Akhundzadeh’s scientific-organizing activity”. I. Akhundzadeh was born in a noble family in 1914, Tovuz region. Graduated from Agriculture College in 1930, then Azerbaijan Institute of Agriculture. Worked as a head educator, senior lecturer and chair of the Department of subtropical plants at the Institute of Agriculture in 1939-1942, head of High Commissioner for Agriculture Schools, colleges and research institutions department in 1942, was appointed director of Azerbaijan Perennial Plants of the Scientific -Research Institute (currently, Research Institute of Horticulture and Subtropical Crops) in 1944. In the 1956-1961, became director of the Institute of Genetics and Selection of ANAS, worked as a head of the department in the years of 1956-1987.

Noted that, scientist gained academic degree of Dr. Biology in 1965 and became a professor in 1966. He has created dwarf apple, innab, 2 pineapple, and 4 pomegranate varieties. He authored for 200 scientific articles, 6 monographs, manual and 3 handbooks for agronomists. He was awarded with Red Banner of Labor for merits in research, teaching, and social activities, 5 medals, Uzbek SSR and Afghanistan certificates of honor as well as “Highest Star” order of Afghanistan, he noted.

Head of the Institute of Horticulture and Subtropical Crops PhD in agrarian sciences Aladdin Sadigov, director of ANAS Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, prof. Farman Guliyev, head chair of Genetics and Darwinism in BSU prof. Rauf Guliyev, director of Azerbaijan Institute of Sericulture Dr. Agrarian sciences Allahverdi Seyidov, scientific secretary of ANAS Department of Agrarian Sciences PhD in biology Tubukhanum Gasimzadeh and others highlighted the importance of these events and shared their memories.
