State Prize Laureate of Azerbaijan, Honored Architect, winner of the Order “Shohrat”, chief department of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS, member of the Azerbaijan Architects' Union, academician Shamil Fatullayev-Figarov passed away on March 9 at the 87th year of his life.
Sh.Fatullaev was born December 24, 1928 in Baku, graduated from the Architecture and Civil Engineering Faculty of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute in 1953. In 1963 he defended his PhD thesis, in 1980 - doctoral, and received the title of professor in 1990.
Honored with a number of high state awards - in 1986 he was awarded Order “Sharaf” of Azerbaijan USSR, in 2000 the Order “Shohrat”, by the Decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, in 2008 - a gold medal in Poland. Sh.Fatullaev is the founder of scientific school in the study of the history of Azerbaijani architecture and urban planning in the XIX-XX centuries. The scientist spoke at many international scientific forums, adequately representing the Azerbaijani architecture.
Sh.Fatullaev had a great contribution to the promotion of the history of Azerbaijan national architecture in the world. The supervised for 15 PhDs and 4 Doctors of science.
The scientist was the author of over 150 scientific papers, including “Baku Urban Development Architecture at the beginning XIX-XX centuries”, “Urbanism and Architecture of Azerbaijan at the beginning XIX-XX centuries,” “Mosques of Azerbaijan”, “Cities of Iran Qajar era”, “Encyclopedia of Baku architecture “, ”Architecture of Absheron” are valuable sources in the study of the history of architecture of Azerbaijan.
The memory of the famous scientist and responsive person Shamil Fatullayev will always live in the hearts of those who knew him.
