Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

May 5, general meeting of Departments of Humanities and Social Sciences were held at Presidium of ANAS.  

Opening the meeting vice-president of ANAS, acad. Isa Habibbayli noted that, agenda of the meeting include election of bureau members and academician-secretaries for departments. Brought to mind that, pursuant to Decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on approval of the Academy Charter dated December 11, 2014, Departments of Humanities and Social Sciences were established attached to ANAS. Academician Teymur Karimli was defined academician-secretary of the Department of Humanities, while corresponding member Nargis Akhundova to the Department of Social Sciences.

Academician noted that, in the annual general assembly of ANAS, decision was made on Department of Humanities and Social Sciences to operate as two separate departments. With the purpose to solve issues stemming out the Charter and to organize activity of departments, Institutes of Literature, Linguistics, Oriental Studies, Manuscripts, Folklore, Architecture and Art, as well as National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature and Huseyn Javid’s Memorial Flat have been included to the Department of Humanities Sciences, Institutes of History, Archaeology and Ethnography, Economics, Philosophy and Law, Human Rights, World Politics, Science, History, Caucasian, including National Museum of Azerbaijan History included to the Department of Social Sciences.

By voting bureau members and academician-secretaries of the departments were elected.

According to voting, academicians Naila Valikhanli, Teymur Bunyadov, corresponding members Ilyas Babayev, Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, Yagub Mahmudov, Shahbaz Muradov, Masuma Mailkova were elected the bureau members of Department of Social Sciences, while corresponding member Shahin Mustafayev was appointed academician-secretary of the department.

Meanwhile, as a result of voting, academicians Tofig Hajiyev, Vasim Mammadaliyev, corresponsding members Mukhtar Imanov, Aliyar Safarli, Ertegin Salamzadeh, Mohsun Naghisoylu were elected bureau members of Department of Humanities Sciences, while corresponding member Mukhtar Imanov was appointed academician-secretary of the department.

In closing, acad. Isa Habibbayli wished successes to the departments.
