Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics held the next seminar.

Chaired by head of the Council, PhD in Geology Orkhan Abbasov, engineer of Geology Department of Institute Ilgar Guliyev delivered lecture on topic "Geochemical features of microelement distribution of the contaminated lakes of the Absheron Peninsula" at the meeting.

I.Guliyev noted the importance of the peninsula lakes, environmental conditions, as well as the contamination causes and extent.

Stated that, most of the lakes are rich of salt, reservation, iodine, therapeutic mud and composites. However, environmental pollution limits the use of these natural resources in many cases.

Khojasan, Bulbul, Kurdakhani and Red Lakes are the most polluted water basins of country. As a result of the taken measures at the state level the Boyukshor is going to get out of this list.

Absheron Masazır lake is the least polluted.

The main causes of contamination I.Guliyev described as anthropogenic factors, natural disasters, climate change, as well as impact on flora and fauna.
