ANAS Institute of Genetic Resoures  (IGR) held five days international probation.

“Application of Next-generation sequencing in greenery of crops” probation was held by participation of celebrate scientists from International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and India Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) within research program titled as “Identification of plant genetic resources at genome and transcriptome level, sustainable use and efficient system maintenance" which financing has been approved by Presidium dated February 11, 2015.

Making speech on state-of-the-art cooperation via global centers, director of IGR corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Akperov stated that, for the first time Genomics laboratory within the pilot project of the Youth Foundation under AR President has been established attached to this scientific venture.

Aladdin Hamwieh, professor, chief of Biotechnology department of ICARDA, highly appraised development of Azerbaijan on his second visit. He noted that, in the course organized here during his first visit on 2011, young scientists of IGR had possessed skills on DNA extraction and molecular markers, while this probation course will instill whole genome and transcirptome analysis by means of Next-generation sequencing. This is an indicative of rapid development of modern science in Azerbaijan.

Mahendar Thudi, professor, associate of Genomics center of ICRISAT, informed on the extended opportunities of the organization led by him. He noted that they have already participated in 3 plant genome sequencing and they are one of the world's leading centers in this field.

In the opening ceremony, associate of Genomics center of ICRISAT Anu Chitikineni delivered lecture on Next-generation sequencing technology.

Later on, guests got acquainted with National Gene bank, Biotechnology and Virusology labs.

Then, probation was held by participation of 25 young individuals. Training provided information about genotyping-by-sequencing in plants, de-novo and re-sequencing, transcriptome analysis, bioinformatic and biostatistic analysis of the results obtained. During the workshop, Darvin, Structure, Tassel, UNEAK computer softwares were trained as well.

On the last day of the probation, ANAS president acad. Akif Alizadeh, vice-presdient of ANAS, acad. Ibrahim Guliyev and academician-secretary of the Department of Agrarian Sciences, acad. Garib Mammadov met with delegates of ICARDA and ICRISAT. Head of ANAS gave his instructions and recommendations on strengthening links via international centers of genomics, genetics and molecular breeding centers, attracting celebrate scientists to the institutes for long-term working, joint staff training, electing topics met with new areas of science at master studies of ANAS, organizing master's probation at international training centers.
