July 15, main building of ANAS hosted for scientific-practical conference on topic "Science and media: multidisciplinary trends and prospects" dedicated to 140th anniversary of Azerbaijan National Press which co-organized by Department of Public Relations and Science Popularization of ANAS Presidium Administration and Azerbaijan Press Council.

The event was attended by representatives of the Presidium of ANAS, Azerbaijan Press Council, heads of institutes and organizations of an academia, as well as some of the country's leading media.

Opening the conference opening speech, President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh congratulated media representatives on the significant event and wished them further achievements and professional success. In his speech, the head of ANAS spoke about the role of media representatives in bringing to the attention of the general public of scientific innovations, information on reforms in the sphere of development of Azerbaijan science, including conditions created in the country for media staff.

Notifying on the revival period of the national press that began after the restoration of independence of Azerbaijan, Akif Alizadeh said that, today Azerbaijan has already formed stable media base. Academician brought to the attention of the participants that the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 2, 2015 "On conducting the 140th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Press" played an important role in the development of the national press.

Speaking of the favorable conditions created for the development of a free press in the country, the implementation of important measures to strengthen the material-technical base of the media, to improve social conditions and the protection of the rights of journalists, head of the ANAS noted that started tradition of the newspaper "Ekinchi" successfully is continued.

Academician A. Alizadeh stressed out the importance of relations established by ANAS with media authorities of the country and expressed confidence in expanding activities to further strengthen the existing ties.

Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov, in turn, spoke about the history of Azerbaijan's national press, the foundation of which was laid by the newspaper "Ekinchi", which played an important role in the awakening of the national consciousness of our people, the formation of national unity, as well as on the work done in the period of independence in the way development and democratization of the press. It was noted that the beginning of its activities July 22, 1875 the newspaper "Ekinchi", which came out a total of 56 issues, has served as the advocate and mouthpiece of progressive ideas and enlightenment of his era, gathered intellectuals around a single idea of Azerbaijanism.

Referring to the current state of the media and the work implemented in the direction of the development of this sector in recent years, A. Amashov noted that in our country created opportunities for free activity of the media and their free expression of the will. Making speech on the development of progressive politics in media which was laid by national leader Heydar Aliyev and successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, he congratulated the journalists on this significant occasion.

In closing, some media organs were awarded diplomas of ANAS.
