Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

November 19, at the University of the "Qerb (Western)" by joint organizational support of the university and Institute of History of ANAS was held a scientific conference on the theme "The Second World War and Azerbaijan."

 At the event, chancellor of the University of the "Qerb", Associate Professor Zemfira Mammadova spoke about the close ties of cooperation between the university led by her and the Institute of History. Chancellor emphasized the role of ANAS and historians of science in the development of the country and learning more about the country's history.

 At the conference, Director of the Institute of History, correspondent member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the role and place of Azerbaijan in the victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The scientist noted that there is a great need for a new more detailed study of this topic.

 Y.Mahmudov spoke about the policy of genocide and deportation carried out from time to time against our people, and said that since ancient times until today, our historical lands occupied by foreign invaders.

 It was noted that during the Second World War, the people of Azerbaijan, like other peoples of the former Soviet Union, fought great heroism and courage both at the front and in the rear. Azerbaijan scientists and Baku oil had a great role in supplying the fighting army with fuel and gaining the victory over fascism.

 Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of History PhD in history Jabi Bahramov told about the international and military-strategic importance of the Baku oil during the war. He brought to mind Azerbaijani people's heroism and bravery of our soldiers at the front with historical facts.

The conference also was made reports of "The Second World War and Baku oil", "Historical Memory of World War II and the succession of generations," "Azerbaijanis on the fronts of World War II" and others.
