Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the president of ANAS met with the president of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan professor Allaberdi Ashyrov on May 30.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Gurbanmamet Elyasov, deputy director of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts named after Magtymguly Pyragy, Doctor of philology Hazratgulu Durdiyev, department head of the institute, PhD in philology Chari Kuliyev and senior scientific worker of the institute Dovletgaldi Seyidov also participated in the meeting.      

At first, the guests got acquainted with the building of the Presidium of ANAS, the new logotype of ANAS, and the exhibition of paintings of the employees of ANAS.

Making a speech at the meeting academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed his pleasure of seeing the guests in Azerbaijan. The academician noted that he invited Professor Allaberdi Ashyrov to Azerbaijan during last year’s meeting in Turkmenistan and this is the first visit of the professor to Azerbaijan.

The academician Isa Habibbeyli said that National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev had always paid great attention to the development of relations with Turkmenistan and took several significant steps in this direction. He underlined that Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan also played an important role in strengthening the relations between the countries. The academician noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan were developing in all spheres including fields of science, education and culture.

The president of ANAS said that the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Gurbanmamet Elyasov had exceptional services in strengthening the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan during last years.

The academician said that this year the 300th jubilee of the great Turkmen poet, thinker and state figure Magtymguly Pyragy was celebrated in Azerbaijan and also around the world at the level of UNESCO. The academician stated that the creativity of Magtymguly Pyragy was well known in Azerbaijan, lots of books were written about him, and the “Divan” of Magtymguly Pyragy was translated into Azerbaijani and published by the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi.

The president of ANAS said that the opening ceremony of Magtymguly Pyragy Turkmen Literature Center which would become a center of culture and literature, house of Turkmenistan in our country and the international scientific conference titled “Magtymguly Pyragy and Azerbaijan Literature” would be held in the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi on May 30.

The academician emphasized that the visit of the Turkmen delegation led by Professor Allaberdi Ashyrov to Azerbaijan would open a new page in the development of the scientific and cultural relations of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Afterward, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Professor Allaberdi Ashyrov expressed his gratitude to the leadership of ANAS for the hospitality and warm welcome. He underlined that the heads of states had created great opportunities for cooperation in scientific, literary and cultural areas. The professor added that the opening of the Magtymguly Pyragy Turkmen Literature Center in the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi would be another contribution to the cooperation between our countries.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Gurbanmamet Elyasov also made a speech at the meeting highlighting the existence of common historical roots, customs and traditions of Turkmen and Azerbaijani nations. He underlined the significant services of academician Isa Habibbeyli in strengthening cooperation relations between the two countries and expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome.  

At the end of the speeches, the sides exchanged presents and photos were taken as a remembrance of the day.
