Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The Nobel Prize laureate, an honorary member of ANAS, Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the US University of North Carolina, world-famous scientist Aziz Sancar visited the Central Scientific Library (CSL) of ANAS on May 31.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of ANAS, chairman of the NAP Yasamal district organization Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, head of the Department of the international relations and work with the international scientific organizations of the Administration of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in biology, docent Esmira Alirzayeva, head of public relations, press and information Department of the Presidium Administration of ANAS, PhD in philology Agahuseyn Shukurov, director of CSL, PhD in technical sciences, docent Huseyn Huseynov and employees of CSL participated in the meeting.

At first, the guests honored the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev by putting flowers at his bust in the hall of CSL.

Later, the president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli informed the guest, who had a special role in strengthening the scientific and cultural relations of the Turkic world, about the library’s history. Passing by the busts of the scientists and founders of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about their scientific and creative activities.

The outstanding scientist Aziz Sancar was informed about the books presented to the Central Scientific Library by the representative offices of various countries in Azerbaijan stored in the diplomatic foundation and viewed the stands of the Turkish Republic and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Speaking about the national concept of “One nation, two states”, that characterized the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey the academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was never considered separate from Turkey in the concept.

The world-renowned scientist Aziz Sancar also got acquainted with the "Karabakh Heroes" Fund with more than 3000 pieces of information and more than 1500 books, video materials and photos of martyrs, veterans, and participants of the First Karabakh War, April and Tovuz battles, the 44 day-Patriotic War, ended with the glorious victory. Besides, Aziz Sancar viewed the photos of National leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev in Karabakh taken in various periods, stands “Architects of the Victory” and “We are Victorious People!,” and map of Azerbaijan, reflecting nearly three thousand names of the martyrs.

Later, the guests got acquainted with the exhibition organized in the exhibition hall of the library. They viewed the newspapers, magazines, books, photos and video materials about the scientific activity and path of outstanding scientist Aziz Sancar. 

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the robot “RoboRek” presented the materials of the exhibition to a wide audience in a video format. 

Director of the Central Scientific Library, PhD in technical sciences, docent Huseyn Huseynov, said that he was very proud to see the world-renowned scientist in the Library and underlined that the path and activity of Aziz Sancar was widely publicized in the Library.

Then, Nobel Prize laureate Aziz Sancar expressed his satisfaction with the visit to ANAS and CSL and presented his book «Hayatı və bilimi» “Life and Science” to the Library.
