Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli met with the rector of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), Professor Jia Wenjian during his visit to the People’s Republic of China.

During the meeting, Professor Jia Wenjian said that the relations between Azerbaijan and China were rapidly developing in all spheres and great success had been achieved in science and education. The Professor spoke about the history, areas of activity of BFSU, projects related to Azerbaijan, and forthcoming tasks. He also highlighted the importance of the cooperation relations established with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Professor Jia Wenjian noted that he would visit Azerbaijan at the end of the current year and a meeting with the president of ANAS was planned to be held during the visit. He expressed his confidence that signing a new memorandum of understanding between ANAS and BFSU would lead to further development of the scientific cooperation relations. Jia Wenjian said that the Azerbaijani language is among 101 foreign languages being taught at the university and the Department of Azerbaijani Language is successfully functioning in the higher educational institution. He highly appreciated the activity of the head of the Department, PhD in philology Agshin Aliyev, and highlighted the necessity to broaden the activity of the Department soon.

The president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that due to the activities of the presidents of Azerbaijan and China, the cooperation relations of the countries had been developing in all spheres including science and education during the last years. According to the academician, it is essential to further expand this cooperation. Talking about the establishment history of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, its priority areas, and the activity of the scientific departments, academician Isa Habibbeyli highlighted the special significance of the relations established with different scientific research institutions of China. He expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the University for the condition created in the Department of Azerbaijani Language at BFSU and added that one of the objectives is to further expand the activity of the Department.

Then, the sides exchanged memorable gifts. The president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli presented a carpet to Professor Jia Wenjian depicting the Khari Bulbul flower, a symbol of Karabakh.

Professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University Zhao Gang, head of the department of Azerbaijani language, PhD in philology Agshin Aliyev, and representatives of BFSU and the embassy of Azerbaijan in China participated in the meeting.
