Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The Central Scientific Library (CSL) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences hosted the presentation of the newly published two-volume books by Elmira Akhundova, the People’s writer of Azerbaijan Republic, an honored journalist, translator, literary historian, and PhD in philology. The books are titled “I was the Leading Dissident among You! Heydar Aliyev and Creative Intellectuals” and "Literary Journey: Time... Stories... Thoughts”.

The event brought together the president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli, People’s artist, academician Omar Eldarov, People’s artist, Professor Khuraman Gasimova, chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Rashad Majid, representatives from the Departments of the Administration of the Presidium of ANAS, the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union and the mass media.

The president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli delivered an opening speech at the event, stating that well-known literary historian Elmira Akhundova is recognized as a professional publicist in Azerbaijan and beyond. Noting that Elmira Akhundova is the author of the first documentary biographical novel about National Leader Heydar Aliyev, academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the books presented here complement each other and consist of interviews and essays about the relationships between prominent personalities and intellectuals of the country and the National Leader. The sources are rich with unique photos depicting the environment and modernity of Heydar Aliyev's era.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that writer Elmira Akhundova, with her multi-volume works on the political geography of the National Leader, is the author of valuable sources that have no alternative. Her six-volume epic titled “Heydar Aliyev. Personality and Time” awarded the State Prize, is a masterpiece.    

Later, the head of the Department of the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi, Professor Asif Rustamli, presented a report titled “New books of the People’s writer Elmira Akhundova:  Returning to Genius and Eternal Themes”.

People’s artist, academician Omar Eldarov, People’s artist, Professor Khuraman Gasimova, chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Rashad Majid, deputy director for scientific works of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, doctor of historical sciences, Eynulla Madatli, leading scientific worker of the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi, PhD in philology, docent Lala Hasanova and editor-in-chief of “Gobustan” magazine Parvin Nuraliyeva, also made speeches at the event. They emphasized that the works of People’s Writer Elmira Akhundova are significant sources for studying the heritage of Heydar Aliyev.  It was noted that Heydar Aliyev always paid special attention to creative individuals and was interested in their issues. The speeches also emphasized that the author comprehensively highlighted the contributions of the distinguished politician to the advancement of national culture.

Concluding the event, People’s writer and PhD in philology Elmira Akhundova spoke about the process of creating the books presented at the event and expressed her gratitude to the Academy leadership and participants for organizing the event.
