The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, got acquainted with the work of the archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology in Khojaly.

The Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, PhD in history, Docent Farhad Guliyev, noted that an open-air museum, the Khojali Archaeological Park, would be established in the ancient settlement and presented to the public by the “Baku Landscaping Service.” This development will be of great importance for the growth of archaeotourism.

The head of the Khojali archaeological expedition, PhD in history, Docent Shamil Najafov, presented detailed information about the archaeological excavations conducted in the Khojali necropolis and around the ancient tomb. He shared the preliminary results of the excavations carried out so far in the defined area, the material-historical culture samples found, and the scheme of the area drawn up based on preliminary considerations with the President of ANAS.

The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, viewed the progress of the excavation work and gave his recommendations to the leadership of the scientific research institution and the members of the expedition.

The head of the Academy also inspected the Khojaly tomb, which is adjacent to the archaeological excavation site. Detailed information about the history of the Khojaly tomb, built in the 14th century, was presented to the President of ANAS.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the special importance of organizing short-term visits by historians, anthropologists, ethnographers, folklorists, and linguists to the expedition, as well as the importance of studying the historical and architectural features of the Khojaly tomb.
