The president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with Dr. Robin Fears, a representative of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), who is on a visit to our country within the Baku Climate Action Week.
In his speech during the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that Azerbaijan’s hosting COP29 is a historic event and the Baku Climate Action Week is one of the significant stages in preparation for COP29. He noted that through this conference, the Academy has the opportunity to establish extensive relations and cooperate with renowned and influential scientists visiting our country.
During the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbayli informed the guest about the history of the Academy and its areas of activity. He noted that the management in the filed of science and education has been improved in our country through a relevant decree of the head of state and ANAS now encompasses humanitarian and social sciences, as well as seismology. Additionally, he pointed out that ANAS has active divisions as Physical, Mathematical and Technical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Biological and Medical Sciences. The Academician also mentioned that the conferences dedicated to the “Green World Solidary Year” and COP29 and extensive discussions on climate change were held within the scope of activities of scientific divisions of ANAS.
The head of ANAS emphasized that next conference will be held soon, with the organization of Division of Humanitarian Sciences and Division of Social Sciences and perspectives of our historians, philosophers, literary scholars and folklorists regarding the “green world” and climate change will be discussed.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli also informed the guest about international relations of ANAS and noted that, for the first time in its history, the Academy has been elected as a member of prestigious international organizations over the past two years. He pointed out that ANAS is actively participating in global scientific processes as a full-fledged member of the the International Science Council (ISC), the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), and InterAcademy Partnership (IAP).
The head of ANAS noted that the National Academy of Sciences is interested in coopeartion with the InterAcademy Partnership in the humanitarian and social sciences fields.
Dr. Robin Fears, a representative of IAP, expressed his satisfaction with visiting ANAS and mentioned that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan would further enhance the country’s global reputation. The IAP official commended the conferences held at ANAS dedicated to “Green World” and COP29. Dr. Robin Fears noted that 4 regional divisions are functioning within the InterAcademy Partnership, comprising around 150 national, regional, and global academies. The IAP brings together more than 30,000 scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, provides scientific advice to states and the public on science, education, healthcare, energy, and other areas to address global challenges. The guest emphasized that in its activities, the IAP relies on the expertise of the world's leading scientists and specialists to improve scientific and educational practices.
The guest also spoke about his research in the field of biological sciences.
During the meeting, the issue of participation in joint projects was also extensively discussed.
Afterward, Academician Isa Habibbayli presented gifts to the guest.
Dr. Robin Fears toured the building of the Presidium of ANAS, and commemorative photos were taken.
It should be noted that the meeting was also attended by vice-president of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova and head of the Department of Foreign Relations and International Organizations at the administartion of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in biology, docent Esmira Alirzayeva.
