Opening of a symposium dedicated to the rich heritage of the great poet and thinker Mahammad Fuzuli, one of the founders of the Azerbaijani literary language, was held at Gazi University in Ankara on October 9.
This is the next prestigious event held as part of the 530th anniversary of the great Fuzuli.
Along with scholars, writers, and poets, the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Türkiye Rashad Mammadov, the director of the Institute for Research on Turkish Culture, Professor Bican Ercilasun, the director of the Yunus Emre Institute, Professor Abdurrahman Ali and the rector of Gazi University Ugur Unal, participated at the opening of the symposium.
Opening the symposium, the director of the Institute for Research on Turkish Culture, Professor Bican Ercilasun said that Fuzuli's heritage, being the pinnacle of literature and philosophy, continues to unite the Turkic world.
“No one has been able to express love in their work like Fuzuli”-said the Turkish scholar, adding that Fuzuli's words are always on the lips of millions worldwide.
Making a speech at the event the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that the 530th anniversary of Mahammad Fuzuli is widely celebrated not only in Azerbaijan but throughout the entire Turkic world. “In accordance with the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated January 25, 2024, numerous events are held in many countries around the world in connection with the anniversary of the great thinker”-he added.
According to Isa Habibbeyli, the name of the great Azerbaijani poet Fuzuli is rightly stands alongside the authors of the masterpieces of world literature. “In terms of significance, Fuzuli's ghazals can only be compared to the works of Shakespeare”- said the President of ANAS. He also stated that the beauty of the language and rhyme structure in the poet's work cannot be compared to the heritage of any other poet.
“Fuzuli's name will forever remain in Azerbaijani history as the author of literary works not only in native Azerbaijani language but also in Arabic and Persian. There is no other poet like him”- said Isa Habibbeyli, continuing his speech by referring to Şikāyatnāmah (“Complaint”), Leylī va Macnūn (“Leyli and Majnun”) and other works and ghazals by Fuzuli as immortal monuments of the art of words.
According to him, even during the poet's lifetime, his works were famous in Istanbul, Tabriz, Tashkent, and other big cities of the Turkic world. “Fuzuli is respected worldwide. His work has passed the test of time and will live on for centuries”- said the President of ANAS. Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented a book about the great poet’s work to Gazi University.
Then, Rashad Mammadov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Türkiye expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the symposium. The diplomat said that one of Azerbaijan’s cities is named after Fuzuli. “For many years, this part of our country was under occupation. Even during the most difficult periods of history, Azerbaijan did not forget Fuzuli. It is no coincidence that the National Leader Heydar Aliyev signed a decree in 1994 to celebrate Fuzuli's 500th anniversary”- the Ambassador said.
The head of the diplomatic mission called on Turkic peoples to always remember and honor their historical and cultural heritage.
The event continued with speeches of scientists and literary scholars on Fuzuli's heritage.
The symposium will conclude on October 10.
