Republic conference titled “The Language and Style of Mahammad Fuzuli’s poetry” was held

The republic conference titled “The Language and Style of Mahammad Fuzuli’s poetry”, dedicated to the 530th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Mahammad Fuzuli was held with the organization of the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS named after Nasimi on October 24.

The event took place in the main building of ANAS and was opened with a welcoming speech by the deputy chairman of the Scientific Council of the Division of Humanitarian Sciences, Academician Teymur Karimli. He emphasized the scientific significance of the conference, organized based on the decree of the President Ilham Aliyev “On the celebration of the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli”.

Academician Teymur Karimli emphasized that great poet Fuzuli brought new breath to the language of the Turkic people, enriching the Azerbaijani literary language and elevating it to a new peak. The poetry of the prominent figure is the most perfect example of literary culture.  The Academician spoke about the historical contributions of the great thinker to our language, emphasizing that Fuzuli is still our contemporary today, and the poet’s heritage holds new significance, especially in our independent statehood.

According to Academician Teymur Karimli the language of the prominent poet is very close to both modern Azerbaijani and the language of classical poets who wrote in Azerbaijani. For his native-language works, Fuzuli immortalized his name in history as one of the creators of the Azerbaijani literary language.

At the end of his speech, Academician Teymur Karimli mentioned that the works of the great Fuzuli have always been a focus of attention and extensive research is conducted on the poet’s heritage.

Following this, Professor Nadir Mammadli, the director of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi, spoke about the philosophy of love in Fuzuli’s work and its fundamental essence.

The creativity of Fuzuli, who is one of the prominent poets of Turkic literature, is essentially poetry of love. A significant part of the poet’s artistic heritage consists of the love-themed works.

Professor Nadir Mammadli mentioned that Fuzuli’s heritage is an irreplaceable spiritual wealth of the Azerbaijani people and spoke about the poet’s largest work, “Hədiqətüs-süəda” (Garden of the Blessed). He noted that “Hədiqətüs-süəda” is a characteristic work that artistically reflects the author’s religious thoughts, feelings of faith, and beliefs.

“Fuzuli has Azerbaijani roots. The poet’s creativity is a result of Azerbaijani literature and culture. Fuzuli was attached to his heritage, roots, and language. The poetry of Fuzuli, who was the protector of the Azerbaijani literary language of the 16th century, has made him the pinnacle of Azerbaijani classical poetry and a unique author who preserved the high level of the Azerbaijani folk language”-said Professor Nadir Mammadli.

The scientist, speaking about the historical works carried out by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in promoting the heritage of Mahammad Fuzuli, said that the great leader visited Fuzuli’s grave in Iraq with a large delegation. During his speech at the event held on November 8, 1996, in honor of the 500th anniversary of Mahammad Fuzuli, the National Leader said that the most part of the Fuzuli’s works were written in Turkish, in today’s Azerbaijani and this distinguishes Fuzuli from a number of poets and scholars who lived, created, and belonged to our people before and after him.

Professor Nadir Mammadli also mentioned that language historians have written various opinions about Fuzuli’s creativity, recalling the thoughts of the linguist scientist Damirchizade about the great poet Fuzuli. He said that Damirchizade characterized Mahammad Fuzuli as a sensitive poet with a strong sense of words.

Subsequently, Professor Sayalı Sadıgova, Doctor of Philological Sciences Zemfira Aliyeva, Doctor of Philological Sciences Nargiz Hajıyeva, PhD in Philology Elchin Ismayilov and PhD in Philology Aynur Mahmudova presented their reports regarding Mahammad Fuzuli’s creativity at the event.
