Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

A scientific session dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Jalal Allahverdiyev, an active member of ANAS, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Azerbaijan SSR State Prize laureate, and honored scientist was held at the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The session was organized by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Control Systems, and the Institute of Information Technologies. The event, held in a hybrid format, was attended by the institute’s leadership, scientists and specialists, as well as invited guests.

The meeting was opened with an introductory speech by the director general of the Institute of Control Systems, Academician Ali Abbasov, who welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of holding such prestigious events. He spoke about the rich scientific heritage and personal qualities of the world-renowned scientist, Academician Jalal Allahverdiyev, noting that the prominent scientist made significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijani science and its integration with global science. He pointed out that the main research areas of Jalal Allahverdiyev were dedicated to issues such as functional analysis, stochastic and deterministic control theory, operator equation theory, modeling of economic processes, and the study and modeling of computer processes. 

The director general of the Institute of Information Technologies of the Ministry of Science and Education, Vice President of ANAS, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev spoke about the history of establishment of the Institute of Control Systems and Jalal Allahverdiyev’s exceptional services in the development of Azerbaijani science. He noted that bringing of the first electronic computing machines to our country at the end of the 50s of the last century gave an impetus to research in computing methods and programming. This, in turn, laid the foundation for the transformation of the Computing Center into an independent organization within the Academy of Sciences in 1960. The establishment of the Institute of Cybernetics in 1965, based on the Computing Center, provided a decisive impetus for the development of cybernetics and informatics in our country. 

Following this, a video dedicated to the life and scientific activities of Academician Jalal Allahverdiyev was presented.

Subsequently, the head of the laboratory of the Institute of Control Systems, docent Gulchin Abdullayeva gave a comprehensive report on Jalal Allahverdiyev’s scientific and organizational activities. She said that six Doctors of Sciences and over forty PhDs were trained and a scientific school was established with the leadership of Jalal Allahverdiyev. The Academician, who is the author of more than 130 scientific works, conducted research that played a significant role in the advancement of Azerbaijani science. 

Following this, Chairperson of the Management Board of the State Examination Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan Maleyka Abbaszadeh, Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, Academician Asaf Hajiyev, advisor of ANAS, Academician Telman Aliyev, Director General of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Professor Misir Mardanov, corresponding member of ANAS, Gorkhmaz Imanov, Michael Farber, Professor of Mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary University of London, head of the Department of Mathematics at Işık University of Türkiye, Dr. Professor Elman Hasanov, Professor of the Mathematics Department of Eastern Mediterranean University of Northern Cyprus, Dr. Agamirza Bashirov, head of the Mathematics Department, PhD in mathematics, Professor Nazim Mahmudov, head of the Functional Analysis Department at Baku State University, Professor Ali Ahmadov, Professor Knyaz Mammadov, and PhD in mathematics, docent, Alakbar Bagirov made speeches at the event, sharing their memories on Jalal Allahverdiyev’s scientific and educational activities as well as his personal qualities.  

At the end of the event, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev expressed his belief that the esteemed scientist Jalal Allahverdiyev would always live on in people’s hearts and voiced his proposals for promoting the scholar’s scientific heritage.
