A scientific seminar titled “The Works of Mahammad Fuzuli in the Context of Eastern Literature” was held at the Institute of Oriental Studies

The scientific seminar on the topic of “The Works of Mahammad Fuzuli in the Context of Eastern Literature,” dedicated to the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli was held at the Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS named after Academician Z. Bunyadov.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, Vice President of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, recalled the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated January 25, 2024, on the celebration of the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli. She noted that, in accordance with the decree, several events have been organized at ANAS, including the Institute of Oriental Studies. Academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva emphasized that, in previous years, the Institute of Oriental Studies has also focused on the immortal works of the great poet, conducting research, publishing monographs, books, and articles and defending dissertations on this topic. She also touched upon the published monographs of institute scientists, including Aydin Abiyev’s monograph “Fuzuli and Turkish Poetry”, Ruhangiz Jumshudlu’s “The Arabic Poetic Heritage of Fuzuli” and Shafag Alibayli’s “Fuzuli’s Divan in Persian: Linguistic and Poetic Features”.

At the seminar, docent Ruhangiz Jumshudlu, PhD in Philology and Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Oriental Studies, delivered a report titled “The Works of Mahammad Fuzuli in the Context of Eastern Literature”. She noted that Mahammad Fuzuli, wrote in three languages-Azerbaijani-Turkish, Arabic, and Persian.

The scientist mentioned that in 1994, National Leader Heydar Aliyev described Mahammad Fuzuli as “the poet who introduced Azerbaijan to the world”. Muhammad Fuzuli, who created a mysterious poetic style also wrote in Persian and Arabic, remaining true to the literary heritage and rich rules of Eastern poetics. Ruhangiz Jumshudlu said that the grandeur of Fuzuli’s Turkish, the logic of his Arabic, and the refined simplicity of his Persian are inseparable parts of his poetic style.

The scientist then spoke in detail about Fuzuli’s poetic heritage in Arabic.

In conclusion, discussions were held on the topic, and questions were answered.
